The EMU is a gnarly bird that is for sure !
The only bird with calf muscles, this bird travels great distances at a sprinting speed of 50 km/h.
Nomadic by nature, they have tiny wings which are used for steering at high speed and also at a standstill, to keep cool.
It’s the male who incubates a new egg by sitting on it for eight weeks until it hatches a chick.
In 1930 after the first world war the Aussie farmers hated the Emu who were running rampant. The colonial army had surplus ammunition, solution : gun em down, wage war on the Emu ! "
Major Meredith commented on the striking manoeuvrability of the emus, even while badly wounded.
